Zappi: charge the car on your own solar
Most smart chargers will schedule. The Zappi decides, watching your home's power in real time and pushing surplus solar into the car instead of sending it to the grid for a few cents.

The charger
Three charging modes, and why they matter
This is the reason people choose a Zappi over a cheaper charger. A clip-on sensor at your switchboard watches what your solar is making and what the house is using, and the charger adjusts the charge rate to match — continuously, not on a timer.

ECO+, solar only
The car charges on surplus solar and nothing else. If a cloud comes over and generation drops below what the car needs, charging pauses and picks up again when the sun's back. Nothing you'd otherwise export goes to the grid.

ECO, solar first, with a floor
Same idea, but the charger tops up from the grid to keep a minimum charge running so the session doesn't stall. Use it when you need the car ready by morning but still want solar doing most of the work.

FAST, just charge it
Full rate from the grid, solar ignored. For when you're heading back out in an hour.

Set and forget
Timers for off-peak windows, a boost function when you need the car full sooner, and control and monitoring from the myenergi app over built-in wi-fi or Ethernet.
The range
Which version you need
There's one Zappi, set up to suit your supply. What we're choosing between is your power supply and whether you want a cable attached.

Single-phase or three-phase
The same unit is wired as a 7kW single-phase charger or a 22kW three-phase charger. Most Melbourne homes are single-phase, and 7kW overnight covers far more driving than most people do in a day. Three-phase is worth it if you've got the supply and a car that can actually take the higher rate — plenty can't.

Tethered or untethered
Tethered comes with a 6.5m Type 2 cable permanently attached and a holster on the unit — grab it and plug in. Untethered gives you a socket and you use your own cable, which keeps the wall tidier and means a damaged cable is cheaper to replace. Both in black or white.

Works with what you've already got
The Zappi reads your home's power at the switchboard rather than talking to your inverter, so it works with any brand of solar. It also plays nicely alongside a home battery.

Well established here
The Zappi has been on Australian walls a long time, which means a long field history, plenty of installers who know it, and a manufacturer with an Australian office rather than an overseas email address.

Real solar charging, not just a timer
ECO+ is genuinely solar-only charging. Some chargers sold as "solar compatible" only mean you can schedule them for the middle of the day, which isn't the same thing at all.

The point of it
Charging on your own solar
This is the whole point, so it's worth being clear about what it does to a power bill.

Exporting is worth very little now
Feed-in tariffs have fallen a long way. Every kilowatt-hour you send to the grid earns a few cents; the same kilowatt-hour used in your car saves you whatever you'd have paid at the plug. Keeping it is worth several times more than selling it.

It depends on when the car is home
Solar charging only works when the car is plugged in and the sun is out. If it sits in the driveway during the day, or you can leave it on charge over a weekend, there's real money in it. If it's parked at work all week, the timers and off-peak charging will do more for you than the solar modes will — and we'd rather say that upfront.

Then the timers do the work for now — charge in your cheapest tariff window, and the solar side is ready when you are. We do solar and battery too.

Got the charger already? We'll install it.
Plenty of people buy a Zappi online, or get one thrown in with a car, and then need someone to put it on the wall properly. We're happy to install a unit you've supplied.
What matters is what happens at the switchboard: the right circuit, the right protection, the sensor in the right place so the solar modes actually work, and the whole thing set up and tested before we go. A Zappi installed without the sensor connected correctly is just an expensive basic charger.

Every standard EV charger installation covers the following.

Good to know. Long cable runs, switchboard upgrades, or difficult access are charged as additional work. If your board doesn't have room or capacity for a charger circuit, we'll tell you when we quote — not on the day. More on switchboard upgrades.

We had a charger installed, an Evnex E2 Core for the Atto 2. Superb job, nicely done, even arranged for a plaster hiccup to be fixed same day. Also installed a surge protector in the fuse box to protect all appliances. Both times on time, efficient, good value and great guys, highly recommend.
